We are thankful for you
Did you know Thanksgiving is on the fourth Thursday of November and that was set by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1939 but where did it come from? Many opinions abound but the accepted account is this; in 1621 the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies.
Of course, this was the time of giving thanks to God by the pilgrims and to “the creator” by the Wampanoag. The Wampanoag are one of many Nations of people all over North America who were here long before any Europeans arrived, and have survived until today.
Thanksgiving is a rare holiday in the world. Canada and the USA are the two countries that celebrate a Thanksgiving holiday in a form that we would recognize.
Most of the sixteen countries where we have projects do not celebrate a Thanksgiving holiday. However, Star of Hope staff and the children in our projects take a moment to be thankful for each sponsor, donor, and prayer that provide hope. So if you are a donor or a sponsor we say thank you from all of our hearts.
