The Bois Negresse School is adding two new classrooms for grades one and two. This is the first phase of what will eventually become three structures, each housing two 400-square-foot classrooms. The cost of each addition is $38,000.
The first two rooms have been funded by a town in Sweden. A group of young people there have taken on the project to raise funds as well as send teams to share in the work and the joy.
These new rooms will build upon a complex that saw a new pre-school building and playground completed in 2013. The children in grades 1-6 are currently holding class in an open pole shelter with a tin roof. Rainy days mean no school.
Because the property owned by the school is sufficiently large, Tony Boursiquot has designed a spacious, inviting campus with ample room for physical activity.
Funds are needed to build the remaining two additions. Each addition will cost $38,000. When completed there will be a total of six new classrooms welcoming the young students. Perhaps you know of someone who could take on one or both of the needed additions, as have the youth in Sweden..
Bois Negresse is nestled high in the mountains, southeast of Port-au-Prince. With few income-generating opportunities, the people live a simple life; however, they want more for their children. Child sponsors help make this school successful by providing access to education. We have many children who lack a sponsor. Maybe you could help one with a dollar a day? That’s all it takes.
