Working in the non-profit sector helping across the world in the poorest areas, I often ponder on the difference a normal "working joe" can make. After all, most of us are not able to fund extensive development projects, costing millions! Most of us couldn't take off for a year or two and volunteer our time and knowledge. So can I as an "average American" really make a difference with my $50 or less?
I can answer that with a shouted - yes, you can. How? Simple. Sponsor a child through Star of Hope (my organization) or another organization you trust. You see, our interest shows up in the life of the child we support. That child receives hope in the knowledge that someone cares. They feel a sense of responsibility to do well for their sponsor.
Don't do nothing because you believe you can't change the world. The only gift that doesn't make a difference, is the gift not made.
